Course Overview

Welcome to Great Bear Golf Club, the only Jack Nicklaus Signature Design in the Poconos. The routing blends strategic angles, elevation changes, and risk-reward par 5s with pure putting surfaces—playable for newcomers, exacting for low handicaps.

Green speeds: Consistent, true-rolling surfaces with seasonal targets.
Surrounds: Closely mown chipping areas encourage creativity.
Bunkers: Visible from the tee, placed to frame ideal landing zones.
Turf care: Daily attention to mowing lines, sand depth, and firm/fast playing conditions.

Recommended Tees by Handicap

0–5 hdcp: Black Tees
6–12 hdcp: Gold Tees
13–20 hdcp: Blue or White Tees
21+ / New to golf: White or Red Tees
Juniors / Family: Red Tees

Signature Holes

Hole 18, Par 5, 575 Yards

A picturesque straightaway hole invites an aggressive line, but safer play is to aim down the left. Approach: favor the front of the green while misses right are friendlier.

Hole 3, Par 4, 455 Yards

The hardest hole on the course. Take one more club if the pin is back. Avoid the short-sided bunker; up-and-down percentages drop quickly.

Pace of Play & Pairings

Standard pace target: 4 hours 28 minutes (foursomes).
Singles, twosomes, and threesomes may be paired at busy times.
Please play ready golf, wave up on par 3s when appropriate, and keep carts on paths where posted.
